For adventure enthusiasts visiting Karla, the Visapur Fort Trek is an unforgettable experience. Standing adjacent to Lohagad Fort, Visapur is slightly higher and features a unique trekking route where you climb directly through a seasonal waterfall staircase during the monsoon months.
Trek Highlights
Built in the early 18th century by Balaji Vishwanath (the first Peshwa), Visapur Fort is much larger than Lohagad. The highlights include massive ruins, ancient water cisterns, a large stone plate grinder, and panoramic views of the surrounding Indrayani valley and Bhaje village.
The Trekking Experience
- Difficulty Level: Moderate. The climb takes about 2 to 2.5 hours from the base village of Patan.
- The Waterfall Staircase: During the peak of monsoon (July to September), water flows down the stone steps of the fort's ruins. Trekking up while water gushes past your feet is both thrilling and refreshing.
- Distance from ADMAC: 6 km to the starting point in Patan.
Safety and Preparation
Since the trail involves climbing rocky steps under flowing water, good footwear with solid traction is non-negotiable. Avoid trekking in very heavy rainfall when the water current can become too strong. Always trek in groups and start early in the day.
Stay Safe: Pack your electronics in waterproof pouches and bring a spare change of dry clothes. After a long trek, the peaceful atmosphere of ADMAC is the perfect place to unwind and dry off.
