Ryewood Park: A Historical Stroll in the Heart of Lonavala

Golden sunbeams filtering through ancient tall trees in a park

If you are heading into Lonavala town for shopping or dining, take an hour to visit Ryewood Park. Originally built as a botanical garden during the British era, this park has grown into a mature, beautiful woodland area filled with tall old trees and wide lawns.

Historical Roots & Flora

Spread over 25 acres, Ryewood Park was named after a British officer, Major Rye, though locals also link the name to the old Marathi word 'Rai' (sacred grove). The park features a rich variety of ornamental plants, medicinal herbs, and massive trees, including giant pines and oaks that are over a century old.

Inside the Park

  • Shiva Temple: A small, peaceful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located within the park premises.
  • Walkways and Lawns: Well-maintained paved pathways wind through the tall trees, perfect for jogging, walking, or bird watching.
  • Children's Play Area: Features swings, slides, and open space for families traveling with children.
  • Proximity to ADMAC: 9 km away (approx. 15-minute drive from the Karla campus).
